Wellness and Recovery:
Practical Applications for Addictions Professionals

This presentation focuses on leading edge applications in addictions
treatment/sobriety maintenance, drawing on materials presented in Dr. Newport's
landmark book The Wellness-Recovery Connection: Charting Your Pathway to Optimal
Health While Recovering from Alcoholism and Drug Addiction (Health Communications,
Inc., 2004).
FOCUS: This workshop enables participants to bring
added value to their treatment programs. It addresses a key reason why millions
of people battling alcoholism and drug addiction fail to reap the full benefits of
recovery and optimal health: They don't adopt a wellness-oriented lifestyle.
Participants learn how to effectively assist clients struggling with addictive
disorders in strengthening their recovery and safeguarding against relapse: adding
years - if not decades - to their life expectancies.
Length:
Presentation format can run anywhere from a 1½ hour Keynote presentation to a full-day
intensive training.

CREDENTIALS:
John Newport holds doctorates in psychology and public health. He is author of
"The Wellness-Recovery Connection: Charting Your Pathway to Optimal Health While
Recovering from Alcoholism and Drug Addiction", and is a leading authority on
the role of healthy lifestyles in recovery from addictive disorders. He has
authored over 200 articles on addictions/health care issues, is a columnist
for Counselor magazine and is serving on a panel convened by the
Center for Substance Treatment (CSAT) to develop treatment improvement
protocol for health and wellness in recovery.
